Lace up and show off at STRUT, a Pride celebration that puts fashion, music, and queer joy front and centre at the Bata Shoe Museum. This high-energy evening invites you to dance, celebrate, and express yourself unapologetically in a space where style and self-expression reign supreme.
Soundtracking the night, DJ Sigourney Beaver will be spinning all the Pride anthems—past, present, and iconic—keeping the dance floor moving all evening long. The stage comes alive with electrifying performances by legendary Toronto queens Ayah Conic, STORM, and Who?, bringing charisma, talent, and unforgettable looks. Hosting the night is the incomparable Sucka Queen, guiding the festivities with wit, warmth, and plenty of sparkle.
Between performances, strike a pose at themed photo ops and booths, get creative at the bracelet-making station, and raise a glass at the cash bar. Whether you’re dancing, crafting, or serving looks for the camera, STRUT is all about celebrating Pride, individuality, and community—your way.

Indigenous Beading Workshop: Strawberry Patch

Celebrate National Indigenous History Month during the Strawberry Moon with a hands-on beaded otêhimin (Cree for strawberry, often called “heartberry”) patch workshop led by Cree-Métis artist Marissa Magneson. Participants will learn about the cultural and seasonal significance of the strawberry while being guided through the fundamentals of one and/or two-needle bead embroidery techniques. Welcoming both beginner and intermediate beaders, this workshop builds confidence and skill as you create a beautiful, meaningful piece rooted in story and tradition.

Marissa Magneson is a Cree-Métis artist, photographer, educator, and workshop facilitator. She has a BFA honours degree from York University and a Master’s degree in Canadian and Indigenous Studies from Trent University. Her research explores Indigenous methodologies, using beadwork as a form of visual storytelling. Marissa’s work is rooted in decolonizing education, strengthening community, and cultural reclamation. In her collaborative work with various organizations, Marissa works to photograph, consult, educate, and create programming in meaningful ways. Marissa would like to acknowledge her maternal grandmother, Elaine Jessop, whose life-long work on Indigenous women’s rights inspires her own journey. Marissa is currently pursuing her Ph.D. at York University in the Faculty of Education, where she is researching “Beadwork as Pedagogy: A Bridge Towards Cultural Reclamation and (re)Conciliation.”

Moccasin Making with Manitobah Storyboot School
Date: Saturday, May 16, 23, 30 and June 6, 2026.

Tickets: $195 General, Free for Indigenous Youth*
Learn the traditional art of moccasin-making with Anishinaabe artist Natalie Ortiz in this four-part workshop designed to teach hand-sewing leatherwork and beading techniques. Natalie will guide participants through the full process, from start to finish, of creating their own custom moccasins from design, pattern-making, beadwork, and construction, to caring for the finished footwear. All tools, materials, and comprehensive instruction will be provided. Please note that missing one or more of the four sessions will likely result in an unfinished project. This course is designed for ages 12+.
The Bata Shoe Museum is pleased to offer 10 free Indigenous youth spots for free, based on a first-come, first-served basis. Please fill out this form to express your interest.
Natalie Ortiz is a Toronto-based Indigenous artist. Her work focuses on handmade jewelry, moccasins, and leatherwork. Natalie is Anishinaabe of Wauzhushk Onigum Nation and of Peruvian decent. Her art carries deep meaning connected to her roots, reflecting the traditions and teachings passed down through generations. She learned beading and moccasin-making through traditional teachings. She has been making moccasins for five years, and every pair is crafted with intention, meant to be worn and appreciated by anyone who connects with them. Live Fashion Illustration 101

Learn the unique art of live fashion illustration with Toronto-based illustrator Nessa Lilly, known for capturing the elegance and energy of fashion moments. Inspired by the Bata Shoe Museum’s new exhibition André Perugia: A Design Legend Unveiled, this hands-on workshop will teach you how to bring fashion to life through quick, expressive sketches in 5 minutes or less. Nessa will guide participants through the dynamic process of live fashion illustration — a rare skill that blends speed, intuition, and artistry to capture style in motion to create original editorial style portraits.

In this workshop you will:
- Learn how professional illustrators capture movement, texture, and design in real time, creating a complete drawing in less than 5 minutes
- Practice gesture and proportion techniques inspired by Perugia’s sculptural shoe forms
- Gain insight into what it’s like to work as a live fashion illustrator at shows, events, and brand activations
No prior drawing experience is needed — just curiosity and creativity. This is a unique opportunity to learn a skill rarely taught in traditional art programs, while exploring the legacy of one of fashion’s most innovative designers.

Nessa Lilly is a Toronto-based fashion illustration studio led by Vanessa Lilly, whose career spans live fashion illustration, high-profile brand collaborations, and fine art fashion pieces. With a deep interest in fashion, Vanessa transitioned from a successful ten-year career in the industry to her illustration business, now working with prestigious clients such as Goop, Saks Fifth Avenue, Levi’s, and Bobbi Brown. Vanessa’s fine art underscores her versatile and artistic vision. Through her work, Vanessa continues to blend artistry and fashion, creating pieces that resonate with elegance.

Guided by Jasmine, you’ll gain the skills and confidence to start drawing up your own shoe collection. Jasmine Martins is a Toronto-based footwear designer known for her vibrant, made-to-order creations that celebrate individuality, colour, and craftsmanship. Trained at the University of the Arts London and Arsutoria in Milan, Jasmine blends traditional shoemaking techniques with modern design sensibilities. Since launching Jasmine Martins Footwear in 2020, she’s built a growing reputation for bespoke shoes, freelance design, and thoughtful collaborations that bring personal stories to life through design.

Perfume Creation with Orris Labs

In celebration of André Perugia: A Design Legend Unveiled—and inspired by Perugia’s own ventures into perfumery—Orris Labs invites you to create your own signature fragrance in this immersive, hands-on workshop.
Guided by expert perfumers, you’ll explore many fragrance notes and learn the art of scent blending, from balancing top, heart, and base notes to layering aromas that reflect your individual style. As you craft your one-of-a-kind perfume, discover how elegance, innovation, and artistry connect the worlds of footwear and fragrance.

Orris Labs is a Canadian-owned perfume and cologne workshop that offers a hands-on experience in the art of fragrance creation. Fuzzy Slipper Making

Guided by designer and educator Jennifer Allison, you’ll learn the foundations of footwear construction while crafting your own pair of fuzzy slippers — perfect for unwinding in style or adding a handmade statement piece to your wardrobe.
Working with plush faux furs, memory foam insoles, and durable rubber outsoles, you’ll cut, assemble, and finish your slippers with both comfort and design in mind. Strap placement will be tailored directly on your feet, ensuring a fit that feels as good as it looks. With two upper design options and a curated selection of colours and prints, you’ll create a pair that reflects your unique style!
No prior experience is required — all tools and materials are provided.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR:
Jennifer Allison is a designer, curator, and educator with over 15 years of international experience in fashion, footwear, and fine art.
She has led design teams for companies such as Pour La Victoire in New York and ALDO Group in Montreal, before founding the Art and Sole Academy—Canada’s first full-time shoemaking school.
Today, as Director and Curator of the WKP Kennedy Gallery, she curates exhibitions, mentors emerging artists, and develops inclusive cultural programming.
Expanding on this dedication to creativity and craft, Jennifer is in the midst of launching her newest venture, SELF MADE—a DIY lifestyle brand that empowers makers to slow down, make time for themselves, and ultimately make their own statement.

Unwind after hours at the Bata Shoe Museum with a relaxed evening of creativity. The museum will stay open late, inviting you to be inspired by the current exhibits and explore self-expression through button making — a simple, hands-on craft inspired by the shapes, colours, and textures found in the museum’s footwear collection.
Design and create your own wearable art using collage, drawings, or found imagery. No experience needed and ll materials are provided — just drop in, get inspired, and take home a piece of your own design.
