DESCRIPTION:Cost: Included with General Admission\nWhen: Every Monday to Friday from July 8 to August 29\, 2025 (except Civic Holiday – August 4)\n11am – 4pm (Some restrictions apply)\nWhere: B1 level\, Bata Shoe Museum \nOur Boots and Spurs Cowboy Summer has arrived! Come and feel like you’re in the wild west with many cowboy crafts activities for kids. Drop-in daily for family fun activities designed for kids aged 4 to 12.  \nDaily Schedule\nExhibition Tours: 12:00 pm & 2:00 pm\nExplore the stories behind footwear from around the world with guided tours of our All About Shoes exhibition and our newest exhibition\, Rough and Ready: A History of the Cowboy Boot. \nHands-On Presentations: 1:00 pm & 3:00 pm\nTouch\, feel and learn about a variety of extraordinary shoes from the BSM collection. Get up close with these incredible shoes and dive into the history of cowboy boots and other fascinating footwear. The collection will constantly rotate so come back again and again to experience them all! \nOur summer programming is included with general admission and do not require reservations unless you attending with a day camp. Tours are on a first-come\, first serve basis and are 30 minutes. Parents and or chaperones must be in attendance.

This basketball tournament concept\, originated in New York City by hip hop legend Bobbito Garcia\, features multiple players and no teammates. Canada is one of many countries participating\, having won the last five consecutive FC21 All World Finals. \nMEET THE SPEAKERS:\n\nABOUT CHANRICKA CARR: \n \nCarr is a member of the adidas S.E.E.D. program. She started her journey in the design space after receiving her MS in Fashion Design from Drexel University. Her projects include the Marvel Studios’ Black Panther: Wakanda Forever collaboration with Lexus x Carbon x Marvel x adidas on a Lexus RX 500h F Sport Vibe-Branium concept interior\, inspired by the film. Nominated by adidas and in support of @makeawishamerica\, Chandricka donated a vintage style leather Varsity jacket with original hand printed artwork of Disney’s original characters Mickey Mouse\, Donald Duck and Goofy for #DisneyCreate100.\n\n\nABOUT YVONNE EJIM: \n \nYvonne Uju Ejim\, a Calgary Alberta Canadian Olympian and forward renowned for her dominant college basketball career at Gonzaga University\, is a member of Canada Basketball’s Senior Women’s National Team and also will be representing Canada this summer on home soil at GLOBL JAM.  \nIn her collegiate career\, Ejim was a two-time West Coast Conference Player and Defensive Player of the Year\, she shattered school records—including becoming Gonzaga’s all‑time leader in points\, rebounds\, and field goals. After earning mid‑major national honors like the Becky Hammon Player of the Year (2024) and being a Katrina McClain Award finalist\, she was selected 33rd overall by the Indiana Fever in the 2025 WNBA Draft. Ejim has represented Canada at various international tournaments including the FIBA U16 Americas\, FIBA U17 and U19 World Cup\, and more recently the 2024 FIBA AmeriCup and at the 2024 Paris Olympics. \nOff the court\, Yvonne is passionate about fashion and healthcare\, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Human Physiology at Gonzaga University\, with a goal to leverage her academic foundation toward her dream of pursuing a career in medicine after her basketball journey concludes. \n\nABOUT ERIKA FLORES: \n \nErika is a self-taught Toronto illustrator\, poet\, and multi-media artist. As the proud daughter of Filipino immigrants\, Erika’s work reflects her passion for storytelling through heritage and culture\, empowering marginalized communities\, and the art behind athleticism and sports. This can be seen through her work with various sports leagues\, notably designing the inaugural away jersey for AFC Toronto\, illustrations for Nike x WNBA for Canada’s first ever WNBA game\, various projects with NBA Canada x Microsoft\, and PWHL Toronto Sceptres. He has been dancing since 2002\, and started breaking in 2008. In those years he has danced with Missy Elliot’s Choreographers in Film\, Represented Team Canada Twice in China and L.A.\, Toured the UAE\, and so much more. His goal currently in dance is to strengthen the knowledge and confidence of people who want to learn Hip Hop Dance styles and general freestyle/improv. Keith has chosen the dance name Keith the God in relation to The Triune God\, being made in God’s Image\, and being one of Three Keiths in his family.

This session offers a beautiful introduction to Bharatanatyam\, one of India’s oldest and most revered dance forms\, blending intricate footwork\, expressive storytelling\, and traditional music. Enjoy a welcoming and beginner-friendly class suitable for all ages and skill levels. \nNo prior dance experience is necessary—just a willingness to learn. She continues to nurture her artistic practice with pieces that combine props and narrative to explore modern stories\, and she plays with visual metaphor in physical form. Shivani graduated with an MA in Performance Studies from NYU Tisch in 2021\, where her dissertation focused on communities of women creating cultural spaces\, colonialism in India\, and how it affected Bharatnatyam as a whole. Shivani advocates for the importance of folk arts\, such as Garba\, and teaches various folk dances and prop work that is prominent in Indian culture. She works as an arts educator and guest speaker\, offering workshops about Indian heritage\, women’s spaces\, dance\, and diversity. She was a contributing writer in the Nova Dance book\, ‘We Will Remember This’\, published by Dance Collection Danse. Shivani’s producing background spans through years of highlighting multicultural and folk festivals in the South Asian Dance diaspora. As the General Manager of Dusk Dances\, Shivani continues to serve communities of global majority in her work.

From 1987 to 1993\, he honed his craft in León\, Mexico\, collaborating with notable figures such as Vicente Fox\, former President of Mexico\, Yan Ferry\, co-founder of Liberty Boot Co.\, and Mike Llama\, grandson of legendary bootmaker Tony Llama. During this time\, Tony developed his signature rock ‘n’ roll aesthetic while mastering traditional cowboy boot-making techniques that were rapidly disappearing. \nIn 1993 Yan and Tony founded the Liberty Boot Company and over the next 25 years the brand became synonymous with high quality and innovative design\, adorning Hollywood stars\, cowboy boot enthusiasts\, and multiple generations of icons. Legends like Liz Taylor\, Madonna\, and Taylor Swift\, as well as Tony’s rock ‘n’ roll heroes such as Bruce Springsteen\, Steven Tyler\, and Brian Setzer\, proudly wore Liberty’s distinctive creations.\n \n\nABOUT FLORA KNIGHT \n \nFlora Knight is a Canadian-born artisan celebrated for her distinctive\, bespoke cowboy boots. Trained under master bootmakers Lisa Sorrell and Ray Dorwart in Oklahoma\, Knight inherits a direct lineage from the original innovators of the American cowboy boot. \nHer work is defined by vibrant\, flowing designs and exacting craftsmanship\, grounded in traditional techniques and a timeless aesthetic. From her Montréal atelier\, Knight creates each pair entirely by hand using only the finest materials—an approach that stands in sharp contrast to the fast pace and declining quality of mass-produced fashion\, resulting in a waitlist of approximately 18 months. \nEvery pair of Knight’s boots is made with care and intention\, offering an heirloom-quality piece for those who value thoughtful\, handcrafted design. \n\nABOUT ELIZABETH SEMMELHACK: \n \nElizabeth Semmelhack: As Director and Senior Curator at the Bata Shoe Museum for over 20 years\, Elizabeth Semmelhack is a renowned expert on footwear\, including sneakers\, and regularly consulted by scholars and global media such as the New York Times\, National Geographic\, The Washington Post\, Forbes\, CBC\, and CNN\, to name a few.  Named by FASHION Magazine as one of the “world’s top five game-changing fashion curators”\, Semmelhack’s award-winning publications include nearly 30 articles and chapters as well as 14 books and catalogs including Out of the Box: The Rise of Sneaker Culture (2015)\, which has sold close to 40\,000 copies world-wide\, Collab: Sneakers x Culture (2019)\, and Future Now: Virtual Sneakers to Cutting-Edge Kicks (2022).
