Includes access to all current exhibitions\nWhere: Bata Shoe Museum (327 Bloor St. W.) \nStep behind the yellow police line and uncover the secrets of real-life crime scene investigations with Detective Ed Adach\, a 43-year veteran of the Toronto Police Service and an expert in forensic footwear evidence. In this captivating talk\, Detective Adach will share his experiences from the gritty streets of Toronto to war crime investigations in Kosovo and forensic teaching in Afghanistan. Discover how seemingly overlooked evidence—like footwear impressions—has played a crucial role in solving homicide cases. Please note: Detective Adach will be discussing real homicide cases and their details. Viewer discretion is advised. \nABOUT ED ADACH \nDetective Ed Adach has been a Toronto police officer for 43 years\, with 33 of those years spent in the forensic unit. As a recognized expert in footwear impression evidence\, he has testified in court 24 times\, investigated war crimes in Kosovo for the United Nations\, and taught forensics in Afghanistan. Detective Adach has published extensively in forensic journals and presented his work internationally\, earning a reputation as one of Canada’s top authorities in his field. \nA portion of the funds related to this event will be donated to Innocence Canada. (formally known as AKI WIIDOOKAAGEWIN (Earth Helpers) for a unique walking tour of the Bloor-Annex neighbourhood. The journey will begin at the Indigenous Botanical Garden in Paul Martel Park (10 Madison Ave. Toronto) where a local guide will share the rich ecological and Indigenous history of the Annex. Along the way\, pause to admire a vibrant mural by artist Joseph Sagaj from the Anishnaabe of the Sturgeon Clan\, then enjoy a short 5-minute walk along Bloor Street West to the Bata Shoe Museum. At the museum\, Grandmother Vivian Recollet\, in conversation with Justine Woods\, Curator of Indigenous Collections\, will share a selection of moccasin belongings from the BSM’s collection and speak to the connections between Indigenous footwear and stories of the land. The tour concludes with a reflection on lost rivers and lakes at Philosophers Walk. Participants are then invited to continue their journey with a self-guided tour of the Bata Shoe Museum’s current exhibitions.  \nPlease present your ticket to a BSM representative upon arrival. DESCRIPTION:Date: Tuesday\, April 29\, 2025\nTime: 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm (Doors open at 6:00 pm)\nLocation: Bata Shoe Museum\nTickets: Free\, registration required  \nJoin us for an inspiring evening with Joseph Sagaj\, Anishinaabe (Ojibwe) of the Sturgeon Clan\, as he shares his remarkable journey as an Indigenous artist. Growing up in Neskantaga\, a remote community of just 300 people located 433 km northeast of Thunder Bay\, Joseph’s creative foundation was shaped by moments like making moccasins with his mother. \nHis artistic path took him from his home community to Toronto\, where he graduated from the Ontario College of Art (now OCAD University) in Fine Arts in 1985. Despite the challenges and struggles often faced by artists\, Joseph pursued his passion and carved out a meaningful career.\nThis conversation will explore his artistic evolution\, his identity as an Indigenous artist\, and the stories behind the many murals that adorn the city\, each one a vibrant testament to his talent and heritage. One of his highlight activities from his youth was making moccasins with his mother. Joseph later moved to Toronto\, attended the Ontario College of Art\, as it was called then\, and graduated in Fine Arts in 1985. This talk will highlight Joseph’s journey as an Indigenous artist and will give insight to his many murals across the city of Toronto.
