DESCRIPTION:When: Saturday April 27\, from 10:30am to 4:30pm\nCost: $40/person\nFriends of the BSM: $35/person\nWhere: Bata Shoe Museum \nHave you ever wanted to learn how to write a theatrical play? This is the workshop for you! In celebration of our upcoming exhibition Exhibit A: Investigating Crime and Footwear\, Dramatic Soles: Writing Plays and Perspectives in Someone Else’s Shoes welcomes new and emerging playwrights to explore the writing process as inspired by footwear and crime. Join celebrated Canadian Playwright Steven Elliott Jackson in learning play constructing\, formatting\, character construction\, plot development\, and theme devices that make great plays. Learners will leave with a ten-minute play and the skills to write bigger and longer works. Museum admission\, instruction\, and light refreshments are all included. There will be a 1-hour lunch break built into the schedule. Lunch will not be provided. \nBUY YOUR TICKETS  \n\nABOUT STEVEN ELLIOTT JACKSON: \n \nSteven Elliott Jackson is an award-winning playwright based out of the Region of Waterloo. In 2017\, his play\, “The Seat Next To The King”\, which won Best New Play at The Toronto Fringe in 2017\, performed in Kitchener and Buffalo in 2019\, was published by Scirocco Drama in April 2018. In 2020\, his play\, “Three Ordinary Men” won Best New Play at the Hamilton Fringe Festival\, was selected as a finalist in the ScreenCraft Stage Play contest\, and nominated 5 times for the 2022 Dora Awards (Canada’s biggest theatre awards). In 2022\, Steven premiered two shows at the Toronto Fringe\, the acclaimed drama\, “The Garden of Alla” and the critically loved family musical\, “The Prince’s Big Adventure”. In 2023\, his immersive play\, “The Will of A Woman” premiered at the historic Spadina House. He also received funding from the Region of Waterloo Arts Fund to develop the drama\, “Comfort And Joy” and was commissioned by Green Light Arts to develop “Poppies For Bukkan” for a future season.
