Her art carries deep meaning connected to her roots\, reflecting the traditions and teachings passed down through generations. She learned beading and moccasin-making through traditional teachings. She has been making moccasins for five years\, and every pair is crafted with intention\, meant to be worn and appreciated by anyone who connects with them. Her research explores Indigenous methodologies\, using beadwork as a form of visual storytelling. Marissa’s work is rooted in decolonizing education\, strengthening community\, and cultural reclamation. Marissa would like to acknowledge her maternal grandmother\, Elaine Jessop\, whose life-long work on Indigenous women’s rights inspires her own journey.
