From The Director & Senior Curator

Dear BSM Community,

I am so excited to welcome everyone back to the museum! We will be reopening on July 21, pending any changes made by the government of Ontario. We have been looking forward to this moment for a long time. While we continue to remain cautious, which includes taking all of the required safety precautions, we can’t wait to see you in our galleries.

Our timely exhibition, The Great Divide: Footwear in the Age of Enlightenment, explores how fashion and footwear were central to the ‘naturalization’ of difference in Europe during the 18th century and were used to rationalize the imperialism that marked the age. Our upcoming exhibition All Dolled Up: Fashioning Cultural Expectations will open in September and considers the role dolls and their small shoes have played in society.

We also continue to offer new engaging content online everyday across our social media platforms, Step into the BSM weekly blogs, TikTok/Reels series and virtual programming such as exhibition tours and sketching in the galleries.

Please make sure to sign up to our e-newsletter so that you are up-to-date on everything we are doing both at the museum and online.

Hope to see you very soon!
