Help the BSM step into the future
Charitable donations are crucial to help us stage the exhibitions, educational programs and activities that the museum offers to the public, as well as to maintain our standards of curatorial excellence. Research, conservation and object and library acquisitions all benefit from charitable contributions. Gifts may be undesignated or directed towards exhibition development, the Step Ahead Fund or any other of the museum’s varied projects. Charitable tax receipts are available for all gifts.

Support Exhibition Development
Each year, the BSM presents at least one new, originally-researched exhibition. Exhibitions are developed by the museum’s in-house curatorial team. Great care and attention to detail go into researching, curating and designing exhibitions that are both informative and aesthetically pleasing.
While many of the artifacts in the exhibitions come from the museum’s own collection, the BSM also borrows artefacts from other world-renowned museums such as the Metropolitan Museum in New York, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and other organizations across Canada, the US and Europe.
Support for exhibition development helps us reach new audiences and in disseminating invaluable new research about footwear.
Provide Education Program Support
The Step Ahead Fund subsidizes educational field trips to the museum for children in kindergarten and elementary classes from schools in at-risk neighbourhoods. The planned programming that is part of the field trip lasts an hour and a half. Students participate in a hands-on activity, take a docent-led tour, and engage in a craft such as painting a small wooden clog that they then take home with them.
Funding covers admission for the students and teachers as well as the materials necessary to deliver the program. The program operates at no cost to the participants. The museum contributes staff and volunteer time. Support for this priority goes directly to benefit the children involved.
