Help the BSM step into the future

Charitable donations make an important impact on the exhibitions, educational programs and activities that the Museum offers to the public. As well, donations help maintain the curatorial excellence that is one of the hallmarks of the Museum. Research, artefact and library acquisitions as well as conservation all benefit from charitable contributions. Gifts may be undesignated or directed towards exhibition development or the Step Ahead Fund. Charitable tax receipts are available for all gifts.

There are many ways to give your support to the BSM.  Here are just a few:

Give an Undesignated Gift

Undesignated gifts to the Museum will be used for the areas of greatest need. This may include educational programming, artefact acquisition, curatorial activities, research, publications, and public programming.

Support Exhibition Development

Each year, the Museum presents at least one new, originally researched exhibition. Exhibitions are developed by the Museum’s in-house curatorial team. Great care and attention to detail go into researching, curating and designing exhibitions that are both informative and aesthetically pleasing.

Most of the artefacts in the exhibitions come from the Museum’s own collection. From time to time, the Museum borrows artefacts from other world-renowned museums such as the Metropolitan Museum in New York and many Canadian and European museums. Support for this priority helps bring to public view new and invaluable information about footwear.

Provide Education Program Support

The Step Ahead Fund subsidizes educational field trips to the Museum for children in kindergarten and elementary classes from schools in at-risk neighbourhoods. The planned programming that is part of the field trip lasts an hour and a half. Students participate in a hands-on activity, take a docent led tour and engage in a craft such as painting a small wooden clog that they then take home with them.

Funding covers admission for the students and teachers as well as the materials necessary to deliver the program. The program operates at no cost to the participants. The Museum contributes staff and volunteer time. Support for this priority goes directly to benefit the children involved.
