“We are excited that Elizabeth has agreed to take on this challenging assignment. As Senior Curator, she has been instrumental in growing the museum’s recognition for excellence in scholarly research and exhibitions and we are looking forward to her continued ground-breaking work in the capacity of Creative Director,” says Ms. Bata Schmidt.
In addition to her new responsibilities, over the coming months Ms. Semmelhack will also serve as Acting Director of Operations.
Says Ms. Semmelhack, “I have always been inspired by the boldness and commitment of the Museum’s founder Mrs. Sonja Bata. She dared to make footwear the subject of serious study, and she built a remarkable collection and a museum dedicated to discovering and sharing the cultural stories footwear has to tell. I am committed to honouring the spirit of our founder and helping to lead the museum forward.”
Ms. Semmelhack and the BSM team is currently focused on creating exciting exhibitions, programming and events for 2020 when the museum will celebrate 25 years as one of Toronto’s foremost cultural landmarks and a world renowned institution with a reputation for global excellence. Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to celebrating this milestone with you.
